Job shadow

I went to EMC to job shadow Micheal Murphy. I had a great time because I learned  a lot about EMC and the type of work they do there. I learned  about what it takes to be and engineer and what they do at the work facility. I enjoyed seeing what the engineers do that work there because I would love to be an engineer when i'm older. Most of my day consisted of walking around the floor to see what was being made but there I was always with an engineer. I really enjoyed it and I would love to go back sometime again.

can software or hardware skype for example hardware uses ethernet port

How the internet works

What is the internet? The internet is the world's largest WAN and it also interconnects computers around the world. It connects all devices that use it and bring them together. The internet is accessed millions of times daily by tons of different people. You can use the internet for many things for example for research for entertainment and for news. The internet can carry many things like personal information and it can spread really fast and if it is out there then you cant get rid of it.

What is a protocol?
A protocol is a set of rules for transmitting between electronic devices. In order for the computer to send information they must agree on how it will be structured. Protocols are established by international organizations. One of the most important computer protocol is OSI open system interconnection. The most important sets of internet protocols are TCP/IP HTTP and FTP.

What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Servers. A DNS is similar to a phone book that is on the internet. They maintain a directory of domain names and translate them to IP addresses. This allows the computer or machine to remember the website based on IP addresses rather than the name of the site. When you type in a web addresses your ISP views the DNS associated with the domain name.

Communication on The Internet

Email clients and servers~ This can be hardware or software based. When you send and email or receive and email you use an Email client. There are some software that are designed to hand emails only.Your email client is also what communicates with the email servers. Some programs will sort the email for you so you don't have to do it yourself.

How email is delivered over the internet~   When you send your email it has to go through simple mail transfer protocol. A protocol is a set of rules for how two computer communicate. Send the information through a Domain Name Server which asks for the IP address of the computer. There are two types of mail that is coming into a sever  POP3 and IMAP. the difference between them is  POP3 you have to download it from the server to your computer.  If you get an email from IMAP server the email stays on the sever until you delete it.

How Instant Messaging Works  it has been around since the early 1990s. It was original small chat rooms for people that wanted to talk over the internet in real time. before you can instant message you must first download the client software for the service you want to use. then you have to run it so you can connect to it and the server. when you login your client sends the server your IP address. The server stays out of the IM process because you client has all the information it needs.

How data Travels the internet

The internet is a vast network of linked computer it is also the largest WAN

Every devices has an IP address which shows how to locate all information has it sent over the internet contains packets of information
router receive the frame and process the packet information
the router removes the outside layers and determines how to send the data correct destination they take sway the frame and finds the best way to get the parts to the other end of the computer
most people access the internet through a LAN
data that through ISPs
they connect through routers the interconnects WANs and LANs on the internet
hops from router to router
ping sends test packets over the internet and evaluates the connection from the machine they are sent from.
Fire wall can be hardware or software protects from things you don't want coming in.
